Historically, the establishment of St John of God secondary school dates back to the year 1964. It is a girls' mission school owned and managed by the Catholic diocese of Awka. As an ancient citadel of learning, it has given birth to reputable women in all fields of learning and specialisation home and abroad. We remain ever grateful to the founding missionary Sisters of St John of God from Ireland, from whom we received this baton of school apostolate and management. From its inception, it has grown from strength to strength and still vigorously journeying towards the promise land of academic excellence and salvation.

It is always open and receptive to new developmental planning and strategies in world class standard of educational formation. In its effort to give the world the best gifts in her products, it pays detailed attention to the three domains of education, namely: cognitive, affective and psychomotor for holistic formation in order to conveniently compete with all the educated all over the world. Her Motto is "Caritas et Sapientia" (Charity and Knowledge). It's all about educating our students in love and charity.
